Is Yoga Good Exercise For Weight Loss

With all the different exercise routines available you start to look for variety to keep you interested, but is yoga good exercise for weight loss?

Harder Than It Looks

If you've never tried a yoga class and only seen images or videos on tv, you might think it's pretty easy. It's just standing still making funny looking poses, right? It's not the actual pose that's difficult, what most people realize is the hard part is HOLDING the poses for any length of time. It's easy to stand still on one foot with you arms in a prayer position for two seconds. What about ten seconds? What about 90 seconds?

In a nutshell that's what yoga is about. It's about balance and focus, not about power or explosive movements you see in other exercises. Most people either love it or hate it, but it never hurts to give it a try. When first getting started with yoga you shouldn't worry about how you look, or how bad you are at certain movements.

Focus on getting better each time you try. If, for instance, you can only hold a pose for two seconds that's okay. But make a mental note of it, and the next time try to hold it for three seconds. Just keep making small improvements and eventually you'll build up your core strength and balance.

Is Yoga Good For Weight Loss

It's not a major calorie burner, but it does work your muscles. I've never seen a video clip where they show you how hard someone works during a yoga class because they want you to picture a relaxing experience. But be prepared to sweat, because it does get more difficult the longer the yoga class. Yoga is a good change of pace workout, but should be included with more calorie burning routines to really shed the pounds.
